Catching Up, and Other News

Where Have You Been?

It’s been 7 months since my last post, and 13 months since my last real, actual, bit of content. “So where have you been?” you might be asking. Well, like many of you the last year has been outrageously busy and writing is one of the things I’ve let fall to the wayside. So allow me to share a brief update with you all.

I was blessed to be one of the people who weren’t laid off from my job when the Covid lockdowns started and as a result of the stay-at-home orders that came down from the mayor here, the small IT team that I’m a part of had to scramble (like every other IT team out there, I’m sure) to retrofit as many of our full time staff with the training and equipment they needed to work from home.

Once things started to stabilize a bit, my wife and I were issued our special travel visas from the Indian government to pick up our daughter from Hyderabad (more on this in a later post). We were there for roughly two weeks, traveling hundreds of miles through southern India with many long car rides, flights, and hotel stays all at the height of the pandemic.

Once we finally made it back home it was time for the holiday season, and on top of that, we sold our home and moved out of the city where we were blessed with an old farm house and a few acres of land. Over the last 7 months we have been working hard on getting our new homestead farm up and running. We planted an orchard and a garden, raised dozens of chickens, a couple of pigs, and soon a handful of sheep! With all of that going on, there has been little time for anything else, but with life settling back down a bit, I’m happy to have time to get back to this blog.

So What’s New?

I’ve got a lot on my mind, and a lot that I want to talk about. Those of you who have followed this blog for a while know that I tend to be rather flaking when posting here because it’s more or less been a general catch-all blog since I started it back in 2009, but as I get older and my interests change, I feel like it’s important to narrow the scope of this blog a bit. Now I could just start a new blog and do that, but I like this one. It’s been an important part of my development (even if I haven’t always been consistent) as a writer, as a blogger, as a theologian (use that term loosely), a philosopher (again, used loosely) and as a man in general. That said, I want to be more consistent in my posting, as well as in my content that I’m creating here. Moving forward you can look forward to posts, updates, guides, and the occasional rant I’m sure on three main topics:

1. Health and Fitness

From the interactions and views of the posts I made last year regarding my weight loss journey and workouts, it seemed like a good number of you enjoyed keeping up with that, so I’ll keep doing those (and boy, do you have a good one in store in the next day or so!).

2. Tech

I work in IT and I genuinely have a passion for tech (especially retro and vintage tech), but I also have a passion for teaching. There are a lot of things I’ve had to figure out and I’ve been thinking about sharing them for a long time, so I invite anyone who is interested in joining me on that journey as well. I’m no expert so don’t expect perfection, but it’s going to be a fun time as we figure this stuff out together.

3. Homesteading

As mentioned earlier in this post, my family and I left the city and have taken up the farm life. It’s a humble farm, but it’s ours and we’re learning a lot as we go. If you are interested in gardening, animal husbandry, farm tech, and more, then stick around for this as well!

Thanks for taking a few minutes to catch up with me. I’m really excited about getting back into the swing of blogging on a regular basis. If there are specific things you want to know, or questions you have, be sure to get in touch with me and I might even respond with something on here.
